A cohort-based film and acting school built around real productions. Faculty are working practitioners. The set is the syllabus.
Scene work, audition technique, and self-tape craft taught the way working actors actually use it. Finishes with an industry day performed for invited casting.
From idea to short film over eight weekends. Story, shot list, on-set discipline, edit. You leave with a piece you cut yourself and feedback from working directors.
A working writers' room, not a syllabus. Each cohort breaks an original series or feature, drafts pages, and pitches the room. Leave with a logline, beat sheet, and a pilot draft.
Selected apprentices embed on a Matista production for the run of show. Real call sheets, real departments, a real credit at the end.
"The set is the syllabus. Your first credit is a real credit."— The Academy at Matista Creative
Selected apprentices join a Matista Studio or Agency production for the run of show. Departments include direction, camera, sound, edit, art, and production coordination. You shadow, you contribute, you ship. You leave with footage, references, and a name on the call sheet.
Week one is alignment. Cohort meets faculty, sets individual goals, and previews the production calendar that will frame the term.
Fundamentals, weekly assignments, and one-to-one coaching from practitioners actively producing, directing, writing, or performing.
Apply the work on a Matista shoot or in a live workshop. Real stakes, real feedback, real footage. Real call time.
Edit cut, scene work, or pitch reading. Invited audience drawn from Matista's working network. Career-grade introductions.
Every instructor is currently producing, directing, writing, or performing. You learn the craft from the people doing the craft.
When a Matista production is in prep, students prep with it. When cameras roll, students are on the call sheet.
Cohorts cap small on purpose so faculty can give every student real attention across the run of the program.
The Academy's faculty roster is drawn from the talent attached to active Matista Studio and Agency productions. That means the room you walk into is led by people in the middle of the work, not people who left it.
Every cohort lists its full faculty on the application page once enrollment opens. Get notified the moment the next slate is named.
The Academy operates out of Matista Space, our Vancouver production stage. In-person sessions, shoot weekends, and showcase nights all take place where Matista's own productions shoot.
Stage time, lighting and grip, sound treatment, a green room, and an edit bay. Same building. Same standard.

Program accreditation with PTIB is in progress. Until accreditation finalizes, programs operate on a non-credentialed cohort basis. Tuition, refund policy, and program scope are disclosed in full before any deposit.
